Our theme verse for Vacation Bible School this year was Psalm 139:14, I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well. We taught the children that each of them is an amazing and wonderful masterpiece of God – created in His image. The current national discussion following last week’s Supreme Court reversal of the Roe vs. Wade decision concerns the sanctity of human life. Every human life is sacred regardless of the circumstances surrounding his or her conception. This means that whenever we encounter a human being created in the image of God, we are encountering God’s masterpiece and we must treat him or her with honor, dignity, respect and love.
Similarly, followers of Christ belonging to the local church are God’s masterpiece. Paul says, “We are His workmanship…” (Ephesians 2:10). The church of Jesus Christ is a glorious body of believers united by a common salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. God brought the church about. God brings diverse believers together into one new and united body. We are ‘wonderfully made’! The church is a miraculous masterpiece of God!
Over the next several weeks, our Sunday morning messages will unpack the prayer Paul offers for the church. In essence, Paul prays for us to experience the ‘oneness’ God intends for the church to display in the world for His glory. Please read and pray through Ephesians 3:14-21 in preparation for worship times together.
