Plentiful Harvest Day

One of the most memorable years that I have of harvest time involves me gathering the crop alone the year my Daddy died – the crop he had planted.

When I was a boy growing up on a peanut farm in south Georgia, harvest season was always an exciting time. (Ok, sometimes it wasn’t too exciting if the crop wasn’t good, but let’s don’t go down that path.) I love it when we work hard and see the fruit of our labor. One of the most memorable years that I have of harvest time involves me gathering the crop alone the year my Daddy died – the crop he had planted. No one can ever take away the memory of me walking across that dusty peanut field at the end of the day in order to pull the trailer load of peanuts I had just picked back to the barn. As the fog of dust still lingered from the peanut picker and the sun dipped slowly behind the trees, I walked with a couple of old dogs at my feet in the cool, crisp air thinking about my Daddy and his love for that farm. Such sweet memories. There’s just something special about harvest time.

And so it is with Harvest Day in Headland! It is an exciting time! Thousands of people will visit our sleepy, little town. Dozens from our FBC fellowship have volunteered to be ‘workers in the field’ to make this a special day in the life of our church and community. We want to let those who come our way know that we love what we do, that we love each of them and that we love the One that we serve with all of our hearts.

If you haven’t signed up to help, come on anyway! We will find something for you to do. If you aren’t physically able to help, you can come on as well! We will have comfortable chairs on the front porch of the White House where you can sit, relax, enjoy the festivities and pray for God to do something special in our community.

Why are we doing all that we are doing? It’s all about exalting Jesus and bringing glory to His name. He is worthy of every bit of the energy and the resources that we expend. To God be the Glory!

Sincerely His,
Tim Gay
