meet our staff

  • cecil sanders, senior pastor

Cecil was called to serve First Baptist Church as Senior Pastor in 2001.  He and his wife, Lynn, have two daughters, Bryley (Nick) Weaver and Brooke.  Bryley and Nick have blessed Cecil with their first grandchild, Gracelynn. Cecil is thankful to God for the educational experiences and training he received at Wheaton College (IL), Dallas Theological Seminary and Beeson Divinity School.  He thoroughly enjoys his ministry of preaching, teaching, loving and leading God’s people to be a church that glorifies God.  In his spare time, Cecil finds therapy from working in the yard, enjoying ‘healthy’ eating with Lynn, fishing with his dad, traveling to visit his daughters and running the streets of Headland.

  • Tim Gay, minister of music & senior adults

Tim has served on our staff as Minister of Music & Senior Adults since March of 2004.  He earned his Associate Degree in Business from Darton College; Bachelor of Music Ministry from The Baptist College of Florida; and Master of Arts in Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary.  He is married to Judy; they have two children, Wes (Cassie) and Lindsey (Wesley) Wells. They are blessed with five grandchildren, Ryland, Maclane, and Vera and Joleigh and Jemma Wells.  Tim loves spending time with his family and especially enjoys playing with his grandchildren. His hobbies include woodworking, cutting/splitting firewood, and riding his tractor or UTV.  He began leading music in his home church in 1980 at age 18 and was called to full-time ministry at age 19.  (Judy was the church pianist!)  Serving God faithfully is his passion; leading others in worship is his heart's desire.

  • joel tucker, minister of students, it & events

Called to our staff in 2003, Joel serves as the Minister of Students, IT & Events.  He earned a Bachelor of Religious Education degree from The Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, FL, and a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.  Joel loves the ministry because, first, Jesus transformed his life with His salvation.  Second, God has placed a desire in him to lead teenagers to investigate God’s truth, be transformed by Jesus’ salvation, and to serve others for God’s glory.  Married to Leah, they have two children, Caroline and Miles.  As a family, they enjoy traveling and hiking in the great outdoors.
